M.A.R.S. WILDLIFE RESCUE GROUP in BC, Canada
The Mountainaire Avian Rescue Society (M.A.R.S.) on Vancouver Island in Canada's scenic British Columbia, have a website at http://www.wingtips.org/ The group specialises in the treatment and care of sick and injured birds. Some of the more common species include Bald Eagles, Herons, Hawks, Falcons, Ducks, Owls, Gulls etc. The group also accepts patients of the non-avian variety like Seals, Beavers, Otters, Deer and Rabbits etc. Vancouver Island is replete with a huge variety of animal life and is known for its vast numbers of bird species, both migratory and resident. We are also home to the extrememly endangered Vancouver Island marmot which is a unique sub-species in this region. Only about 50 remain in existence at this stage. Due to its popularity with animals of the human persuasion, accidents are inevitable on the Island as people encroach upon animal habitats and as wildlife cross our backyards, highways, rail and power-lines. Societies like M.A.R.S. are therefore sorely needed and because of the huge strain on their resources, they value volunteer assistance and donations. I am a photographer, artist and author and am also a volunteer at the M.A.R.S. facility in the Comox Valley on Vancouver Island. I'm deeply impressed by the caring attitudes of the staff there.
